20th Annual Omaha Film Festival Announces Exciting Lineup of Films and Events

OMAHA, NE (March 2025) – The Omaha Film Festival returns for its 20th year, celebrating two decades of cinematic excellence with an electrifying lineup of films, filmmaker Q&As, and special events. From March 11-16, 2025, Aksarben Cinema will host 96 films, featuring captivating narrative features, thought-provoking documentaries, and diverse short films that will leave audiences inspired and engaged.

Filmmakers from around the world will be in attendance, participating in post-screening Q&A panels, offering behind-the-scenes insights, and connecting directly with audiences. Each night, attendees can continue the celebration at lively after-parties, making the festival an unmissable gathering for film lovers and industry professionals alike.

Opening & Closing Night Films

The festival opens on Tuesday, March 11, with the highly anticipated thriller Holland (SXSW 2025), directed by Mimi Cave and starring Nicole Kidman, Gael García Bernal, and Matthew Macfadyen. This gripping mystery follows a woman whose idyllic life in Holland, Michigan is shattered by a dark and unexpected discovery.

On Sunday, March 16, the festival closes with The Assessment, fresh from its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Directed by Fleur Fortuné, the film stars Elizabeth Olsen, Alicia Vikander, and Himesh Patel in a chilling, near-future tale where parenthood is a privilege—and a couple’s seven-day test to prove their worth spirals into psychological horror.

Special Screenings & Events

In addition to a diverse lineup of films, the Omaha Film Festival is proud to present special screenings of:

  • “Eric LaRue” (March 15) – Actor Michael Shannon makes his directorial debut with this powerful drama starring Judy Greer and Alexander Skarsgård, tackling the emotional aftermath of a school tragedy.
  • “40 Acres” (March 16) – A dystopian thriller by R.T. Thorne, set in a future where the descendants of African American farmers fight for survival in rural Canada.

Screenwriters and film enthusiasts won’t want to miss the Writers Theatre on Saturday, March 15, featuring live readings of selected screenplay finalists, followed by an exclusive Q&A with the writers.
