Have you tried the “Puffy Taco?”
Located in what was the old historic Bank of Benson building on Maple Street, Taco Co has a fun, funky atmosphere with well-mixed margaritas and their famous “puffy tacos.” What exactly is a “puffy taco?” It’s a fried softshell taco inspired from the family recipe of their grandmother Maria Sanchez (of Maria’s in Ralston). We visited Taco Co on Friday (January 29, 2021) right after work and the establishment was busy, but not crowded, while very careful and considerate about social distancing in this age of covid. We enjoyed a couple house margaritas and an order of chips with pico de gallo (outstanding) while waiting on our tacos. The service is friendly and efficient.
Not my first experience here, and it certainly won’t be my last, Taco Co has become one of my favorite places to enjoy a quick, delicious meal with drinks at very reasonable prices.
Be sure to check out the old bank safe they incorporated into the wall next to the bar. One side is the outside of the safe and in the men’s room you’ll see the interior door. Very creative.
